Coimbatore : Karpagam University and Hindustan reigned as champions in their respective categories in the Handball tournament for the Chief Minister's Trophy, organised by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, Coimbatore division, here at Karpagam University on Wednesday.
Coimbatore : Karpagam University and Hindustan reigned as champions in their respective categories in the Handball tournament for the Chief Minister's Trophy, organised by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, Coimbatore division, here at Karpagam University on Wednesday.
In the women's category, Karpagam Univesity won all their matches in the league and finished at the top of the table, lifting the trophy in style. In the men's category, it was a cliffhanger in the league since both the PSG and Hindustan teams were tied with two wins each. With four points, Hindustan was declared as the winners since they had defeated PSG in the league stage.
About 13 of the best handball teams in the city, including three women's teams participated in the two-day tournament which started on February 5th. The tournament was inaugurated by R Sundararajan, Dean, Karpagam University.
Prasanna Venkatesh, Engineering Dean, Karpagam University was the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony and awarded the prizes to the winners. District Sports Officer (in-charge), Jayachandran, Albert Prem Kumar, Secretary, Coimbatore District Handball Asscociation and Dr. S Suthakar, Director of Physical Education, Karpagam University were present at the prize distribution.
