Coimbatore: Tirunelveli Sepak Takraw team are the overall champions in the 14th South India level Sepak Takraw Tournament for the PSG Trophy, organised by the Physical Education Department of PSG Technology, here on Sunday.
Coimbatore: Tirunelveli Sepak Takraw team are the overall champions in the 14th South India level Sepak Takraw Tournament for the PSG Trophy, organised by the Physical Education Department of PSG Technology, here on Sunday.
The tournament witnessed 18 teams comprising of 11 men's team and 7 school teams from various parts of South India taking part and competing under various categories such as team events, Regu (three member) and doubles, with Tirunelveli emerging as overall champions with the highest points.
Following Tirunelveli, Chennai Sepak Takraw team secured the second place in the tournament. In the team event, Tirunelveli defeated Chennai and TACT Coimbatore by 2-1, thus clinching the championship in the team category. Similarly, Tirunelveli won the doubles finals in the premier category. But in the Regu Premier category, Tirunelveli was defeated by Chennai.

PSG Tech and DJ Sports Club won the title of Regu Champions, while the Doubles Champions was won respectively by Jayendra Saraswathi School - B. Tirunelveli won the title in both Regu and the Doubles events, in the school division.

The best emerging player award was awarded to Ajay Adhavan (PSG Tech, Coimbatore) and Ebeen Rooban (Jayendra Saraswathi School, Tirunelveli). Jeevi Durai Vignesh (Tirunelveli) was selected as the best striker, Pani Vignesh (Chennai) was awarded the best Tekong of the tournament, while the Best Feeder of the tournament was Elango (Chennai ) and Mukesh Durai (Tirunelveli). Adithiya of Karthik Sepaktakraw Academy, Coimbatore was selected as the best emerging player in the school division.

P Narayanaswami, the Secretary of PSG Sarvajana Higher Secondary School, Coimbatore was the Chief Guest at the valedictory function and distributed the awards.
