Coimbatore: Sree Saraswathi Thyagaraja College has won the District level Ball Badminton tournament for 'Chief Minister Trophy' organized by Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu here in the city on Thursday.
Coimbatore: Sree Saraswathi Thyagaraja College has won the District level Ball Badminton tournament for 'Chief Minister Trophy' organized by Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu here in the city on Thursday.

SDAT, Coimbatore is conducting various sports events under the banner 'Chief Minister Trophy' for budding sports persons in the city. As part of the Chief Minister trophy, the SDAT conducted ball badminton tournament at the Corporation ball badminton ground near Nehru Stadium.
Around 17 teams including 10 girls team and 7 boys team participated in the tournament. The first round of the tournament was conducted under knockout basis and the qualified four teams played under league basis.

In the league stage, STC Pollachi, Pollachi club, Rathinam college and KCT college vied for the trophy in which STC college, Pollachi emerged as champions.
Following STC, Pollachi club won two matches in the league stages to secure the second place. Rathinam and KCT college finished third and fourth respectively.

Similarly in the girls category, Nirmala College for Women clinched the trophy by winning all the league matches. Karunya Club secured the second place, as they had won two matches in the league stages.
Sri Padmavathi Ammal High School and PSGR Krishnammal college for women completed third and fourth in the tournament.
Jayachandran, District sports officer (incharge) Coimbatore gave away the prizes to the winners of the tournament.
