Coimbatore : Chinnathadagam Volleyball Club has clinched the district level Volleyball tournament for the R Govindarajulu Memorial Trophy held by the Coimbatore District Volleyball Association (CDVA), here in the city on Sunday.
Coimbatore : Chinnathadagam Volleyball Club has clinched the district level Volleyball tournament for the R Govindarajulu Memorial Trophy held by the Coimbatore District Volleyball Association (CDVA), here in the city on Sunday.
About 32 teams including eight women's teams took part in the two-day tournament which started on Saturday. In the men's category, Chinnathadagam VC and Bharathiar VC were the teams that clashed in the finals in which Chinnathadagam VC emerged victorious by 2-1 to win the championship. Similarly, Kavi VC and the SDAT Hostel team fought for the third place in the tournament, with Kavi VC edging out the SDAT hostel team by 2-1.
In the women's category, Lotus VC from Thadagam were crowned as champions. They beat ABC Volleyball Club in the finals (2-0) without taking the game into the decider, while Garuda Recreation Club secured the third place by beating Avinashilingam University 2-0.
Selvaganesh of the SDAT Hostel team was picked as the best Libero player of the tournament and Gnanaselvan of Bharathiar VC was selected as the best 'setter' of the tournament.
Total cash prizes worth Rs.45,000 were presented to the winners int heir respective categories. Ravichandran, Chief Patron of the Coimbatore District Volleyball Association awarded the prizes to the winners. M Chinnaraj, President CDVA, M Venkatapathy, Secretary of CDVA and Vijaychandran, Treasurer of CDVA were present for the prize distribution.
