Coimbatore: More than 300 weightlifters from across the state showcased their prowess and skill in the 39th state level weight lifting championship held at the Nehru College of Aeronautics, here in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: More than 300 weightlifters from across the state showcased their prowess and skill in the 39th state level weight lifting championship held at the Nehru College of Aeronautics, here in Coimbatore.

In this two-day competition organised by the Nehru Group of Institution along with the Tamil Nadu Weightlifting Association, events were conducted under various weight categories of 49, 55, 61, 67, 73, 81, 89, 96, 102 and above 102 kgs. The team from Salem won the overall championship, followed by the Salem Thiruvallur district which secured the first runner-up place while the second runner-up position was bagged by Namakkal district. In the Juniors category, Shanthi from Salem district secured the first place and Kumar from Namakkal won the second place.

The CEO of the Nehru Group of Institutions and Secretary Dr. P Krishna Kumar distributed the prizes to the winners. The President of the Coimbatore Weightlifting Association G K Selvakumar and A Muralidharan who is the Tamilnadu Weightlifting Association's Vice-President were also present at the prize distribution.
