Coimbatore: M Sathish Kumar, a Class 12 student of the Rathinapuri Corporation School in the city clinched a gold medal in the 53rd National Cross Country Meet jointly organised by the Athletic Federation of India and the Uttar Pradesh Athletic Asscociation at Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday.

The city lad who has been consistently showing his skill by winning several medals in 2018, has kickstarted this calendar year with a blast, winning the coveted gold in the National Cross Country Meet. Around 1000 athletes from various parts of the country took part in the event which was conducted under various age categories. Sathish took part in the Under-18 years category which was a 6 km run. About 17 athletes from Tamil Nadu participated in the Meet but Sathish was the only athlete who emerged victorious with a gold medal.
Sathish credits his coach Vairavanathan, the founder of Genesis Sports Club for his laurel saying that the gold medal has also given him more confidence in propelling him further toward his dream.
