Coimbatore: United Basketball Club prevailed over YWCA Basketball Club in the district level basketball tournament for the 13th Devarajulu Memorial Basketball Trophy that concluded on Thursday here, at the Corporation basketball courts.
In a nail-biting final between United Basketball Club and YWCA Basketball Club, the match was poised evenly until the last, with both teams at 71-71. A lead of three points in the extra time of the match clinched the trophy for United Basketball Club. Selva of the United Basketball Club scored 23 points for his side.
In the match for the third place, Wings Basketball Club sealed R.L.M.H.S by 74-64 to secure the third place. The winners and runners-up of the tournament were rewarded with cash prizes of Rs.9000 and Rs. 7000 respectively. Rs. 5000 rupees was awarded to the team that came in third, and Rs.4000 was awarded for the fourth place.
S Jayachandran, the District Sports and Youth Welfare Officer presided over the tournament and awarded prizes to the winners.
