Anil Vij, Haryana Minister of Sports promised the cash prize to the teenage shooting sensation after she came out with a sterling performance and won gold in 10-meter air pistol event.
On Friday, the teenager who took to Twitter posted the screenshot of the Minister’s announcement right after her gold medal win and asked if the promise was indeed true.
The tweet which read “Sir Please confirm if it is correct or just Jumla…”
The Twitter post created a storm and led to strong reactions from the minister who reacted in a Tweet from his official handle. "There should be some sense of discipline in players. Bhaker should feel sorry for creating this controversy. She has a long way to go. She should focus on her game only", he tweeted.
Before her "Jumla" tweet on January 4, Manu Bhaker had also tweeted saying, "Someone in Haryana is really playing with Youth Olympic Games cash prize”, thus revealing the politics behind awarding the cash prizes for winning athletes.
