Coimbatore : Doing Coimbatore proud are six students from the city representing the Baharathiar University Chess team at the All India Inter University Chess Tournament held at Guru Jambeswarar University, Haryana, securing fourth place for the first time in the history of Bharathiar University.

Since 2016, the Bharathiar University's chess team has been participating in the South Zone and All India Inter University tournaments but this year the team tasted success in both tournaments.
Earlier, the Baharathiar University's women chess team had won the third place in the South Zone Inter University tournament held at the SRM University, Chennai and qualified for the All India tournament in which the country's best university teams participated.

The Bharathiar University chess team comprising of P L Kavitha (PSG CAS), P S Theksidha (PSG CAS), R Gayetri (PSG CAS), S K Shivashankari (PSG CAS), R Pavithra (PSGR Krishnammal College for Women), P Kirubalani (Hindustan CAS) have indeed created history by securing the fourth place in the All India Inter University Tournament.
