Coimbatore : The 24th State Forest Sports Meet began at the Forest College Sports Ground here today, with Dindigul C Sreenivasan, the Forest Minister declaring the Sports Meet officially open by releasing balloons. Contingents comprising of 701 officers, staff and officials of the Forest Departments from 13 forest zones of Tamil Nadu participated in the March Past marking the inaugural of the Sports Meet.

S P Velumani, the Minister for Municipal Administration, Rural Development and Implementation of Special Programme and Pollachi V Jayaraman, the Deputy Speaker hoisted the flag. Following the march past, the 'sports torch' was taken around the ground by the medalists of the 23rd All India Forest Sports Meet, before it was lit to display true sportsmanship.

Various sports events such as Athletics, Volleyball, Kabaddi, Cricket, Power lifting, Swimming, Billiards and Shooting will be organized at the three-day Forest Sports Meet. Winners of this Meet will participate in the All India Forest Sports Meet to be held in Raipur in January 2019. All medal winners in the All India Forest Sports Meet will be awarded Rs.20,000, Rs.15,000 and Rs.10,000 for gold, silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Sanjay K Srivastava, IFS, H. Malleshappa, IFS, T P. Raghunath, IFS, Amit Asthana, IFS, Dr. P Durairasu, IFS were present at the Meet along with T N Hariharan, the Coimbatore District Collector. The Sports Meet will conclude on Sunday.
