Kedar Jadhav stunned after snub, chief selector explains reason behind rejection

Kedar Jadhav was surprised after he was not selected for the final three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against West Indies saying he was not communicated the same by the selectors. Kedar Jadhav was surprised after he was not selected for the final three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against West Indies saying he was not communicated the same by the selectors. Now chief selector MSK Prasad has come out and said that Jadhav's "history of fitness" is the reason he was not picked.

Jadhav had his hamstring injury occur once more during the Asia Up in Dubai right after he made a comeback in the team followed the same injury during the Indian Premier League.

Jadhav was called for the India A side midway into the Deodhar Trophy. However, his name was missing from the 15-man squad announced for the rest of the ODI series against the Windies even though he scored an unbeaten 41 off 25 in the Deodhar Trophy.

According to the selectors, Kedar Jadhav's fitness history became a roadblock for his comeback.

"We did not pick Kedar because of his history of fitness. There have been occasions earlier when he has come back fit and then broke down, a case in point being the Asia Cup last month," MSK Prasad told PTI.

"Actually, we were thinking that if India A won today, then Kedar would have got another match, which would have given us a fair assessment of his match fitness. May be we could have added him as an additional player (in Indian team) before the fourth ODI as the Deodhar final is on Saturday. Players need to understand that there is a process that we follow while selecting the team," Prasad added.

MSK Prasad's comments came after Jadhav said that he had not had any communication regarding his selection for the ODIs against the Windies.

"I did not know this," said Jadhav when asked if there was any communication over his selection for the remaining three games against the West Indies.

"Let's see. You are the first one to tell me this. I need to see why they have not picked me. I don't know what the plan is now that I am not there in the team. Probably, I will be playing the Ranji Trophy," Jadhav further said.

The selectors have recently faced a lot of criticism for the lack of communication before dropping players from the Indian team. The selection committee, that held pride in the communication process that they said was happening, came under fire after Karun Nair and Murali Vijay came forward and said they had not heard anything from the selectors before being dropped from the Test squad.

MSK Prasad had even then come out and denied the claims made by Nair and Vijay.

Jadhav, on the other hand, gave an insight into his state of mind after injuries and said that if you want to play, you cannot be harbouring doubts about your fitness.

"You can't be cautious when you play. Till the time you don't meet all the fitness criteria, the NCA people will not clear you. As long as they clear you, you should not be having doubts on the field. That is what why I don't hold myself back (even when it comes to diving on the field).

"Also, it is very important to be honest with the physio. Then only they can give you the right feedback. You cannot hide things from physios and trainers, else you will only get exposed," Jadhav said.
