Coimbatore: In a significant environmental initiative, the Kovai Kulangal Padhukappu Amaippu commenced its tree planting event on June 5, celebrating World Environment Day.
District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati inaugurated the activity by planting the first of approximately 5000 native saplings at a 27-acre site owned by the Madukkarai Pillayar Puram Forestry in Coimbatore.
This event, supported by private institutional funding, saw the involvement of various local administrations, forestry departments, college students, the Indian Army, and over 800 community members.
Children and parents participated with great enthusiasm, planting native tree species, notably about a hundred different types.
Continual efforts by the Kovai Kulangal Padhukappu Amaippu in activities such as lake clean-up and expansion of green cover highlight their ongoing commitment to environmental conservation.
