Local body elections should be conducted ASAP in order to receive fund from central government, says Easwaran of Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi

General Secretary of Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi (KMDK), Eswaran has stated that the elections for the local bodies in Tamil Nadu should be conducted by the Tamil Nadu government as soon as possible, else this situation could result in the stoppage of funds that are currently being provided by the central government, this minister stated.

KMDK’s district level general meeting was hosted in Coimbatore today and party's general secretary Eswaran presided over this meeting. When speaking to the press before the meeting Eswaran said. “The construction of dam by Kerala government across Bhavani river is against the interests of Tamil Nadu.”

“The central government should introduce a law to prevent the state governments from constructing dams across rivers in a manner that impacts other states. The violence that erupted during the Jallikattu protests do not have to do anything with the students. The cases filed against the students by the police should be withdrawn.” he said.

Commenting on the Prime Minister’s commitment of inter-linking the rivers in our country, Eswaran stated “Respected PM Modi has assured during the last parliamentary elections that efforts will be made to connect the rivers in the country. However, no effort has been taken by the central government so far to connect the rivers. He also questioned the Tamil Nadu BJPs stand on the issue of linking rivers.”

According to this minister, the permanent solution for the sharing of river water disputed will be interlinking the national rivers. He added “People should protest for linking the rivers like they did for the conduct of Jallikattu.”

Moving the focus to the increase in the number of farmers taking the extreme step in our state, Eswaran said “Banks loans are the reason for the suicides among the farmers, to prevent farmer suicides the loans that are obtained by the farmers, in the nationalised banks should be waived off.” he said.

“The central government teams that inspected our stated and declared it as drought-hit is an eyewash. The Tamil Nadu government has not taken steps to build the drinking water treatment plant to treat the drinking water received from Athikadavu dam. Considering the present situation in our state, the Tamil Nadu election commission should conduct the local body elections immediately, as there is a chance of the central government stopping funds that are currently being provided to the local bodies.” this minister stated.
