6-year-old, another BSF jawan killed in Pak firing

Jammu: BSF head constable Sushil Kumar, of Kurukshetra in Haryana, and a 6-yearold boy were killed in overnight cross-border firing along the International Border in Jammu district.

Three women were among the 10 people injured in the firing. There has been little let-up in ceasefire violations since last month and intermittent firing was still on in some sectors.

Sushil Kumar's death on Sunday night comes after BSF jawan Gurnam Singh, of Arnia in Jammu, succumbed to head injuries received during heavy shelling by Pakistan in Hiranagar on Saturday .

"Pakistan continued unprovoked shelling throughout the night in all sectors of Jammu on the International Border," official sources said.

They said Pakistan Rangers fired mortar shells and small arms at seven Indian border outposts in Arnia sector, drawing effective retaliation from the Indian side.

According to official sources, Pakistan began shelling BSF posts as well as civilian areas in Abdullian, Karotana Khurd and Tubewell at RS Pura around 10pm on Sunday , with heavy firing continuing till Monday morning.

The BSF spokesman also said that another jawan has been injured in cross-border firing in Sangral in RS Pura sector. "Heavy mortar and automatic fire from Pargwal to Kahnachack and Gajansoo areas is on," he said, adding that almost all posts north of Suchetgarh, till the Chenab, were being targeted.

"The six-year-old child died while his parents sustained splinter injuries," police sources said.
