Srinagar: SSB jawan killed, 8 other personnel injured in terror attack at CRPF camp in Zakura

A jawan of paramilitary force SSB was killed and 8 others, including a policeman, were injured on Friday night when militants attacked security convoy in Zakura area on the outskirts of Srinagar. Out of the eight personnel injured, 4 of them are critical. The injured, who included a policeman, have been admitted to a hospital for treatment.

According to IG SSB Deepak Kumar, three companies of SSB patrol party were returning to camp from duty when at around 7:30 pm terrorists opened fire on one of the vehicles. “Four SSB jawans have been injured in the attack, while they were returning from duty.”

“Jawans retaliated but couldn’t fire aggressively given the civilian population. 1 jawan lost his life, while 8 others are injured. Around 40-50 rounds were fired on our convoy,” added Kumar.

Security forces immediately cordoned off the area and launched search operations to track down the militants.

This is the first militant attack in the city since the encounter at Nowhatta on August 15 in which a CRPF commandant was killed and nine other personnel were injured.
