Pakistan Army today violated a ceasefire agreement and resorted to indiscriminate firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir's Kupwara district.
The police said the firing took place at Danesh and Lakshmi posts in Naugam sector.
According to sources, India responds to unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan on LOC with punitive strikes. Two Pakistani soldiers have been killed in Indian firing.
"Indian troops are effectively retaliating Pakistani firing. Exchanges are still going on in the area," the police added.
PM Narendra Modi is currently chairing the CCS meeting on the situation on LoC, in New Delhi.
Modi had said that the September 18 attack on an army base in Kashmir's Uri, in which 18 soldiers were killed by terrorists from across the border, would not go unavenged.
