BJP National Council meet: Amit Shah arrives in Kozhikode

Ahead of the three-day BJP National Council meeting in Kozhikode, party president Amit Shah arrived in the city amid grand reception by BJP workers at the Calicut International Airport, Karipur. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also slated to visit Kozhikode on September 24. A special function is also being organised to mark the centenary year celebrations of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay who was elected as the Jan Sangh president in Kozhikode in 1967.

While speaking to Press Trust of India, senior BJP leader V Muraleedharan said, “Upon the Prime Minister’s arrival in the city in the evening, he will address a public meeting being organised as part of the national council.” PM Modi will be attending the meetings on September 24 and 25.

On the third day of the national council meeting, PM Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the birth centenary celebrations of Deen Dayal Upadhyay, former Jan Sangh president, at a special function.

According to reports, almost 1,700 BJP leaders will attend the meeting, including Union ministers, Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states, MPs, MLAs, national leaders and state unit leaders. Reports suggest that the national council meeting would also focus on the Uri attack that claimed the life of 18 soldiers. A senior party leader told PTI, “Obviously there is palpable anger among our workers over the terror attack and they would be looking at the top party brass to send out a message. I am sure the leadership will touch on this issue of national security.”
