Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on Monday expressed regret for “incorrectly attributing” a remark on the contentious Rafale deal to the Supreme Court, saying the comment was made in the “heat of the political campaigning” and that is was misused by his political opponents.

In an undertaking to the top court, Gandhi said, “I will not attribute any views, observations or findings to the Court in political addresses to the media and in public speeches, unless such views, observations or findings are recorded by the Court.”

Meanwhile, the Election Commission submitted its decision in a sealed cover to the Supreme Court in connection with the release of the biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The court said it will consider the matter again on Friday.

The poll body was asked to watch the film and taken an informed decision on whether to ban its pan India release. Acting on complaints from political parties, including the Congress, the EC had stalled its release. The makers of the Bollywood film starring Vivek Oberoi as PM Modi had moved the apex court challenging the decision.
