Two schoolchildren and a man, who tried to save them, drowned in Wyra river at Pallempalli village of Veerulapadu mandal on Sunday.
According to Veerulapadu police, the victims V. Arun Kumar, 12, and Nagendrababu, 12, of the village ventured into the river to take bath while their uncle T. Srinivasa Rao, 40, was washing his bike at the same place at around 11.30 a.m.
Unaware of the depth, the duo moved far from the shore and lost hold which led to drowning, the Sub-Inspector said. A few men at the spot noticed the children drowning and alerted T. Srinivasa Rao who was nearby. While trying to rescue the children, Rao too drowned before others came to their rescue, police said.
