Defence ministry spokesperson Lt Colonel Devender Anand said, “Pakistani troops initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by shelling with mortars and firing of small arms along the LoC in Shahpur and Kerni areas of Poonch district around 7.45 am. The Indian army was retaliating’’.
“One BSF inspector martyred during Pakistan shelling in Poonch area. Four more personnel injured are out of danger,” said a BSF spokesperson.
An army jawan was also injured in Pakistani shelling and small arms fire in Shahpur area of Poonch.
Nearly a dozen injured have been brought to government district hospital at Poonch, sources said, adding that mortar shells were falling in residential areas in Shahpur, Kerni and Mankote sectors of Poonch district. A number of houses were also damaged, sources added.
