The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to Artificial Intelligence as an elective subject, say reports.

The board came up with the idea to have Artificial Intelligence in the syllabus after a session with the government’s policy think tank, the NITI Aayog. After the session, the board has been exploring the topic.

Artificial Intelligence is a part of computer science which focuses on creating super-intelligent robots with the capability of imitating humans.

The decision to include the topic came after much thought and with the aim to make school students knowledgeable in the technologies which will be more mainstream in the future.

A member of the board’s governing body said that the move was made to introduce the topic for classes 8, 9 and 10 as a skill subject.

The member also said that since technologies like artificial intelligence, data analytics and big data making a huge impact globally, the board wanted to stay abreast of the recent leaps in technologies in the world.

The governing body's member also said that the board will help schools so that they are equipped to begin with the 'teaching-learning' of the topic from next academic session.

The official also said that the board held talks with stakeholders, including with a school that was already teaching the subject and that the decision to include the subject was made after 'comprehensive discussion'

The CBSE has 20,299 schools in India and 220 schools in 25 other countries.

It appears that application of Artificial Intelligence is becoming more and more common and iit is being used in diverse platforms.

In November, China demonstrated a technological leap when it broadcasted the world's first artificial intelligence (AI) news anchor at the World Conference in east China's Zhejiang Province. The anchor was on Xinhua News Agency 's channel.

In October,  a painting created by artificial intelligence was sold at 432,000 US Dollars, at the Christie's Prints and Multiples art auction in New York. The portrait called the 'Portrait of Edmond Bellamy' features a gentleman dressed in black. The artwork was expected to fetch between 7,000 to 10,000 US Dollars, however, it has shocked everyone by making 432,000 US Dollars.
