A 37-year-old man died while his friend was injured after a fire broke out in South Delhi’s Hauz Khas village early Wednesday morning. The fire is suspected to have originated from a short-circuit, but police investigations are on.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (south district) Nupur Parsad said the deceased has been identified as Gourav Taneja, while his injured friend is 23-year-old Anklora from France. “After the incident, the victims were taken to Safdarjung Hospital where Taneja was declared brought dead on arrival, while his friend is recuperating,” she added.
Fire department officials said they received a call at 5.45 am from Hauz Khas following which three fire tenders were rushed to the spot. “After receiving the PCR call, three fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the fire was put out within two hours,” officials said, adding that though it was a minor one, but the area being congested, firemen took more than an hour to douse the flames.
