Narendra Dabholkar murder case: Three accused get bail as CBI fails to file chargesheet on time

Pune sessions court Friday granted bail to the three accused in Narendra Dabholkar murder case as CBI did not file chargesheet against them within 90-day period, ANI reported.

Pune sessions court Friday granted bail to the three accused in Narendra Dabholkar murder case as CBI did not file chargesheet against them within 90-day period, ANI reported.

The accused were Amol Kale, Rajesh Bangera and Amit Degvekar. Of them, Bangera and Degvekar are at present in judicial custody with SIT in Gauri Lankesh murder case, whereas Amol Kale is in the custody of SIT, probing the murder of Govind Pansare.

This comes after the accused filed a bail application on Thursday stating that the investigating agency had not sought additional time from the court to file supplementary chargesheet against the accused under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

The stipulated time for filing a chargesheet in UAPA cases is 90 days after the date of arrest, following which the investigating agency can seek a 90-day extension.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court had told the CBI that if there was any ‘common thread’ in the murders of journalist Gauri Lankesh, activists Govind Pansare, Narendra Dabholkar and rationalist M M Kalburgi, it can take over the probe in all four cases.

Dabholkar (68), known for his pioneering work in the eradication of superstitious practices in Maharashtra, was shot dead on August 20, 2013, in Pune while he was taking a morning walk.
