Goa Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo has claimed that a BJP legislator asked him to refrain from asking “too many questions” as the Chief Minister was ill during the monsoon session of the state legislative assembly.
“I clearly remember (BJP MLA) Glenn Ticlo telling me… not to ask many questions because the Chief Minister (Manohar Parrikar) is unwell,” Reginaldo said Friday.
Addressing a press conference at the state Congress headquarters in Panaji, Reginaldo called for “better policy and administrative decisions” over the six-month ban on fish imports in the state over reports of formalin use. He blamed the state government and Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for handling the entire episode in a “haphazard” manner.
Reiterating the demand for Parrikar’s resignation, Reginaldo said as the chief minister had not attended any official meetings at the legislative headquarters in several days and decisions on matters plaguing the state had been kept on hold.
“We have given him ample opportunity. It is high time that Parrikar resigns gracefully… He has crossed all limits to remain in power and to cling to (CM’s) position,” he added. Parrikar is being treated for advanced pancreatic cancer.
Ticlo could not be reached for comment.
