‘Gaja’ that lay over southwest and adjoining southeast and west central Bay of Bengal is about 550 km northeast of Nagapattinam and is very likely to cross the coast between Pamban and Cuddalore on Thursday evening or night with a wind speed gusting upto 100 kmph, the Met department said, as reported by PTI.
Fishing operations have been suspended along the coasts of north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining Andhra Pradesh for Wednesday and Thursday. A warning has been issued for the fishermen to not venture into the deep sea.
Meanwhile, all schools remained closed in Cuddalore on Thursday as cyclonic storm ‘Gaja’ is likely to intensify along the North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coast. Read in Tamil
The Puducherry government had on Tuesday put its machinery on full alert to meet the impact of cyclone ‘Gaja’. Chief Minister V Narayanasamy chaired a review meeting with officials of various departments to ascertain the preparedness.
