The well-marked low-pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining north Andaman has intensified into a depression, an IMD release said. This weather system that was centred about 20km northwest of Port Blair and about 1,340 km east-southeast of Chennai, is very likely to intensify into a deep depression during the next 24 hours and into a cyclonic storm subsequently, the release said.
The system, an IMD alert said, is very likely to intensify further into a Severe Cyclonic Storm during next 24 hours.
