Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu will visit France from November 9 to 11, representing India at events commemorating the centenary of the signing of the armistice ending World War I, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement on Thursday.

The ministry’s statement said that Heads of State of over 50 countries and their representatives are expected to participate in the centenary activities. “On 11 November, Vice-President will attend the ceremony to commemorate the armistice of World War I at Arc de Triomphe (in Paris), presided over by French President, Emmanuel Macron,” the statement said.

As part of the Armistice Centenary, the French government will also host the Paris Peace Forum, which will be organised in the French capital from November 11 to 13.

The forum has been envisioned as an annual event to promote governance solutions in five key areas — peace and security, environment, development, new technologies, and inclusive economy.

The Vice President will also speak at a high-level panel discussion titled, “Dialogue of the Continents on Global Governance”. He will further address the Indian community and inaugurate the Indian War Memorial at Villers Guislain in northern France.

Naidu will also hold a number of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Paris Peace Forum.
