Economists giving true picture on demonetization, says Shatrughan Sinha

"On the 2nd anniversary of the famous (most say infamous) demonetisation announcement, it's important that the citizens of India hear and read the views of economists, experts and true learned intellectuals, instead of the loud ranting of the Sarkari Darbaris," tweeted Shatrughan Sinha.

After repeated rant against Prime Minister Narendra Modi over Rafale deal, Bharatiya Janata Pary MP Shatrughan Sinha has now lashed out at him on the second anniversary of demonetisation and said that noted economists were presenting a true picture on the impact of the decision rather than "sarkari durbaris".

Referring to former prime minister and economist Manmohan Singh, Sinha said that even he has said that the step was not conceptualised correctly and has unleashed havoc on the country's economy.

"The former PM & great economist Manmohan Singh has called it an ill-thought move that unleashed havoc on the Indian economy & has advised the govt against any more unorthodox measures. He fears that we are yet to understand and experience the full impact of the demon exercise," said actor-turned-politician Sinha.

Shatrughan Sinha shared the former PM's views that demonetisation had impacted every person, regardless of age, gender, religion, occupation or creed. He said it's often said that time is a great healer but unfortunately in case of demonetisation, the scars and wounds are only getting more visible with time.

Citing the recent article of noted economist Kaushik Basu in The New York Times where he said that demonetisation was poorly designed, Sinha said, "Kaushik Basu, leading economist wrote in New York Times that demonetisation was poorly designed, with scant attention paid to the laws of the market. So far its effects have been disastrous for the middle and lower-middle classes, as well as the poor. Why is it Sir (PM) that so many learned persons disagree with this move?"
