Around 700 trainee constables, mostly women, were removed from duty after they indulged in large scale violence in and outside the police lines. They were protesting the death of their colleague Savita Pathak who died at a private hospital because of dengue.

Two FIRs have been lodged in this case at the Buddha Colony Police Station in connection with the incident. The first FIR was lodged on the complaint of Manoj Mohan, SHO of the Buddha Colony Police Station, while the second was registered on the complaint of Mohammed Masaluddin DSP/Sergeant Major of Patna police lines.

The trainee constables alleged that Savita Pathak had sought leave on medical grounds from Sergeant Major for her treatment which was denied. On Friday, while the deceased was on duty, her condition deteriorated and she was rushed to a private hospital where she died.

The trainee constables first allegedly attacked Md Masaluddin and later also manhandled senior police officials. Three of the SP rank officers had reached the police line to control the situation. Several police jeeps, buses and also vehicles of the officers were damaged in this incident.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has taken cognisance of the entire matter and had sought a detailed report from DGP KS Dwivedi.
