Everyone ignored dying man on delhi road, one stole his mobile phone

New Delhi: On Wednesday, 40-year-old Matibool lay bleeding for over an hour on a road in Delhi, after being hit by a tempo. The only man who stopped was seen on camera picking up his mobile phone and walking off.

Matibool, an e-rickshaw driver, died before a team of policemen came and took him to a hospital around an hour and a half after the accident.

CCTV images from the spot chronicle the lack of compassion often ascribed to the capital city.

After hitting Matibool around 5.30 am yesterday at Subhash Nagar in west Delhi, the driver of the three-wheeler is seen approaching him but turning away quickly and driving off after assessing that his victim is alive.

In the moments afterwards that turn into an excruciating 90 minutes, several people walk past the wounded man on the road.

Then a man stops a rickshaw and walks towards Matibool. Finally, some help - those watching the video would think. But this man picks up Matibool's mobile phone and walks away.

A team of policemen arrived around 7 am. Matibool was declared dead due to excessive bleeding.

Matibool, who was from Bengal, drove an e-rickshaw in the day and worked as a security guard at night. He was on his way home after an overnight shift when he was hit.

The police are looking for two men - the tempo driver and the man who stole Matibool's mobile. The people who ignored the dying man are not even on their radar for now.
