CBI row: Kejriwal digs out Modi's tweet from 2013

Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal is among the Opposition leaders who saw a Rafale angle in removal of CBI director Alok Verma by a midnight government order on October 24. Some went on to call it "midnight surgical strike at CBI" by the government.

Taking to Twitter, Arvind Kejriwal said, "Is there a co-relation between Rafale deal and removal of Alok Verma? Was Alok Verma about to start investigations into Rafale [deal], which could become problem for Modi ji?"

Then Arvind Kejriwal dug a little more. He pulled out a tweet by then Gujarat chief minister and BJP's prime ministerial aspirant Narendra Modi to attack the BJP-led NDA government over its handling of the CBI.

Back then, Narendra Modi had slammed the Manmohan Singh government alleging that the Centre undermined the stature of Intelligence Bureau after CBI officials questioned some of IB officials in a case.

On June 5, 2013, Modi wrote on Twitter, "Unfortunate that in its quest to target political opponents, Centre is undermining intelligence systems with CBI questioning IB officials."

Kejriwal reposted the same tweet from Narendra Modi after the government announced that it had sent Alok Verma and Rakesh Asthana, the special director of the CBI on leave.

Alok Verma and Rakesh Asthana were sent on leave following a bitter tussle between the Number 1 and Number 2 in the CBI. They traded charges against one another for months.
