Here is why people in Delhi go to other parts of NCR to buy petrol, diesel

For the people living in Delhi, the other cities of the National Capital Region (NCR) have become their go to option to fill their fuel tanks. Also, some people residing in NCR would earlier visit Delhi to buy petrol and diesel. Now they have stopped going to Delhi.

For the people living in Delhi, the other cities of the National Capital Region (NCR) have become their go to option to fill their fuel tanks. Also, some people residing in NCR would earlier visit Delhi to buy petrol and diesel. Now they have stopped going to Delhi.

What is the reason?

As a result of the recent fuel price cut announced by the Centre and several states, the prices of diesel and petrol are now lower in NCR districts such as Ghaziabad, Noida, Meerut, Gurgaon and Faridabad than in Delhi.

Interestingly, all the cities other than Delhi included in the NCR are part of BJP-ruled states.

Noida, Ghaziabad and Meerut are part of Uttar Pradesh, while Gurgaon and Faridabad are cities in Haryana.

After Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced the rate cut of Rs 2.50 per litre on petrol and diesel prices on October 4, several other states also followed the suit. Haryana and Uttar Pradesh among others reduced the prices by an additional Rs 2.50 per litre.

Here is how much fuel costs across Delhi-NCR today:

"Despite having my home and workplace in Noida, I used to travel to Mayur Vihar extension in Delhi to get my fuel tank filled since petrol used to be cheaper in Delhi. However, I do not have to go to Delhi now. I buy petrol from Noida itself as the fuel is cheaper here than in Delhi, " said a journalist requesting anonymity.

He also said the tables have turned now. Some of his friends from Delhi now come to Noida to get their petrol or diesel tanks filled.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Vijay Goel has slammed the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for not reducing the fuel prices in Delhi. He took out a bullock cart rally in the national capital to protest against the Arvind Kejriwal government not slashing the prices of petrol and diesel.

"Modi government reduced the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 2.50. However, Kejriwal government has not even reduced the prices by 2.50 paise. If the prices of petrol and diesel are not reduced, then this bullock cart rally will reach Kejriwal's house," Goel tweeted further saying that Delhi government is being asked to reduce the increasing prices of petrol and diesel.

As Kejriwal is being asked to reduce the fuel prices in Delhi, here is how he reacted when the Centre announced rate cut on Thursday.

Arvind Kejriwal tweeted soon after the announcement by Arun Jaitley, "The Modi government increased excise duty (on fuel) by Rs 10 per litre but reduced by just Rs 2.50 per litre. This is cheating. The Central government must reduce at least Rs 10 per litre."

Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken has also complained that Kejriwal government has been increasing and decreasing VAT in tandem with the central government.
