In Telangana, the Legislative Assembly has been dissolved on the recommendation of the state Cabinet led by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.
Also, Chief Election Commissioner OP Rawat stated that they will not be taking any decision on the holding of polls basis any astrological prediction made by anyone. "We'll assess if Telangana elections can be held with other four states. Any astrological prediction (over dates) made by anyone is notwithstanding," he said.
It may be noted that KCR decided to dissolve the Assembly on September 6, keeping in view the fact that the TRS chief considers number six as lucky for him. CEC Rawat further said the poll panel will first take stock of the preparation from the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer and only after that they will be taking a decision on when to hold the elections. “Then an official audit will take place. The Commission will visit after that,” he stated.
"Issues like festivals, examinations and weather conditions will be discussed before arriving at a final conclusion," a senior EC official separately said.
The Telangana Rashtra Samithi has decided to go in for early elections with the hope that CM K Chandrashekar Rao's charisma and a divided opposition in the state will help it return to power with a stronger mandate.
The Assembly was dissolved nearly nine months before its term was due to expire. Governor ESL Narasimhan accepted the recommendation made by the Cabinet to dissolve the Assembly. The CM and his Council of Ministers have been asked to continue in office as a caretaker government.
