Congress is all set to launch a jansampark campaign from next week across the country to raise funds for the party and reach out to people.
The idea of crowd-funding was charted out in the brainstorming sessions by Congress leaders during marathon meetings that were held on Thursday.
Party leaders and workers will cover over 10 lakh booths in the 40-day-long campaign likely to begin from September 10.
On numerous occasions, party leaders have stated that the Congress is facing cash crunch. Recently, senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel took over the charge as treasurer of the party. Patel met general secretaries, in-charges, Pradesh Congress Committee presidents and state treasurers to discuss the financial situation of the party.
BOOTH-LEVEL OUTREACH
Sources said that the formula to raise fund at national level is inspired by Rajasthan Congress's drive "Mera Booth, Mera Gaurav" - a massive booth-level outreach program rolled out by Sachin Pilot.
"During this massive outreach campaign we will tell people about what we plan to do for their development; what this Modi government has failed to do in last 4 years and we will also raise funds for the party through booth level workers," West Bengal Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary told India Today.
Apart from charting out a fund raising formula, the party has also decided to cut down their expenditure. According to sources, various advisories have been issued to AICC leaders, members, workers and other frontal organisations.
AUSTERITY MEASURES
Congress has asked its leaders to adopt austerity measures which also involves cutting down expenditure on election campaigns. The party feels that it needs to give more preference to door-to-door campaign and nukkar sabhas.
MPs, MLAs, general secretaries, and secretaries have been asked to bear the cost of their travel. Frontal organisation chiefs will also have to submit a report on cost-cutting. Also, optimal utilisation of local resources is the mantra that has been handed down to workers.
"Idea is simple along with election campaign, which will add a personal touch, we'll collect funds for the party," said a senior Congress leader.
