The BSE benchmark index Sensex opened at record high of 38,989.65 on Wednesday. However, it slid by 37 points to 38,858 in the early trading session.

All sectoral indices were trading in green except FMCG, IT. The gains on stock markets were led by Adani Ports, Tata Motors, GAIL, ONGC, Sun Pharma, Mahindra and Mahindra, Reliance and Bajaj Finance.
Coal India, Titan, Infosys and HCL Technologies were performing lowest so far.

The rupee weakened by 22 paise to 70.32 against the US dollar today, hurt by fresh demand for the American currency from importers.
Traders said besides fresh demand of the US currency from importers and dollar's strength against some currencies overseas weighed on the domestic unit.
