At least 17 people have died between August 14 and 22 and more than 2,200 house damaged in the region after the heavy rain that induced landslides and floods. Nearly 7,500 people have been provided shelter in 53 relief camps and more than 4,500 people have been rescued.The chief minister has instructed construction of temporary dwelling units to house around 10000 people.
The chief minister in a letter to Prim Minister Narendra Modi said that the rain-induced landslides changed the geomorphology of the region and courses of river. Arterial roads connecting Kodagu were completely damaged, hampering relief operations.
CM Kumaraswamy has estimated damages amounting to Rs 3,000 crore with loses to infrastructure, crops and public properties.
Earlier today former Chief Minister Siddararamaiah in a Twitter post condemned the step-motherly treatment given by PMO to Karnataka in releasing funds for relief operations.
