The deaths occurred either due to drowning, wall collapse or snake bite in the flooded waters, Disaster Department Secretary S Suresh Kumar said.

In Jalpaiguri district, administration has issued a red alert, officials said.

Among the worst affected areas are Kalchini, Chitmahal, Kumargram, Phulbari and Dabgram.
