Medical and dental seat aspirants, who wrote the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) phase 2 on Sunday, were a tad disappointed as they found the paper tougher than Common Entrance Test (CET) and NEET phase 1.
In a chaotic admission season that has caused anxiety and confusion among aspirants for medical seats in private and deemed universities, NEET phase 2 was being seen as the last chance to fetch a seat. In fact, many medical seat aspirants had given up their NEET phase 1 candidature to prepare for NEET-2 since they felt having more time for preparation could increase their chances.
However, Sunday’s paper seems to have let down students. “As anticipated, the difficulty level of the paper was more than the CET. What made it harder was that NEET has negative marking, which CET doesn’t,” Nishchitha S., a student, said. Many, including Ms. Nischitha, found the physics section tougher than chemistry and biology.
While many students had bagged medical and dental seats under CET, those who failed to obtain seats through CET or hoped to get into a “better” college are now depending on their NEET scores.
Preethi Arakeri, a student from Hubbali, who took the test here, said the questions in NEET were more application based and “twisted”. Many students were irked that they had to take the same exam twice and hoped that the authorities would conduct a single entrance exam for next year. Analysis by coaching centres said that an average student was likely to be above 60 per cent if they had managed time effectively.
Results on August 17
The results of NEET 1 and 2 will be announced on August 17. More than 90 percent of the 4.75 lakh students took the test in 739 centres across 56 cities. Meanwhile, there was the intense security check at the centres. Many girl students were asked to remove bands from their hair before entering the exam hall. Students were asked to remove watches, ornaments, and leave behind pens too. The invigilators provided pens and water.
Aishwarya Sharma said that although she wore open sandals, she was still asked to write the exam barefoot. The invigilators even checked inside students ears.
