Actor-Turned-Politician and Rajya Sabha member Raj Babbar will take charge as new chief of Uttar Pradesh Congress on Sunday in Lucknow. Babbar will reach the state capital along with party’s chief ministerial candidate for 2017 polls Sheila Dikshit, the party said after a meeting of the newly appointed leaders of the state unit of Congress with the party’s in charge of UP affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad in New Delhi.
However, they said whether Azad would attend the event is not confirmed yet as he may have to attend the all-party meetings convened by the government and Lok Sabha Speaker in Delhi on Sunday, ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
The state Congress has planned a road show in Lucknow to mark the first visit of the newly appointed leaders, including Sanjay Sinh, Pramod Tiwari, Imran Masood and P L Punia.
The road show will begin from the airport and move through areas like Charbagh, Hussainganj, Burlington crossing before reaching Hazratganj crossing, where they will garland the statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Bhimrao Ambedkar, and Sardar Patel before moving to PCC headquarters.
Sources informed that the party has also shifted the dates for the big convention, which was earlier planned in the third week of this month, to the third week of August.
