Congress has taken on Prime Minister Narendra Modi as rupee has tumbled to a lifetime low at 69 against dollar. Randeep Singh Sujrewala,Congress' communication in-charge, scorned Modi for mocking Manmohan Singh government over plummeting rupee back in 2013.

Prior to this, rupee's record low was on November 24, 2016 when it was 68.8650 per dollar.

Surjewala tweeted, "Dear Modiji, You mocked Dr. Manmohan Singh comparing his age to the value of depreciating , which never really fructified. Now, is at a historic low of 68.61 to 1$, surpassing your age. When will it be restored to 45 to 1$ as you promised?"

Prime Minister Modi is 67 years old.

During his speeches before the 2014 election, Narendra Modi questioned the Manmohan Singh government on falling rupee prices asking whose age in the government was being denoted by the dip in rupee. On one occasion, he had even compared the falling rupee to then Finance Minister P Chidambaram who was then 67 years old.

Rupee was 42 to 1 dollar when Atal Bihari Vajpayee's government came to power. However, rupee fell to 60 against dollar during the last year of Congress government.

On July 24, 2013, Narendra Modi had tweeted, "UPA Government and the Rupee seem to be in a competition with each other on who will tumble down more."

When rupee crossed 64 to 1 dollar mark back in 2013, Modi had said the existing government was only busy in saving its chair and it had no concern on economy and falling rupee.
