Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday said he was back home after a spell of hospitalisation at New Delhi's AIIMS, where he underwent a renal transplant, and thanked the medical team which took care of him for the better part of a month.

"Delighted to be back at home [sic]," the senior BJP leader tweeted. "My gratitude to the doctors, nursing officers and the paramedics who looked after me for over the past three weeks. I wish to thank all well-wishers, colleagues and friends who were very concerned and continued to wish me for my recovery."

On My 14, Union Railways Minister Piyush Goel was temporarily given the finance portfolio in Jaitley's absence.

The finance minister underwent a successful kidney transplant weeks after he announced on April 5 that he was being treated for "kidney related problems and certain infections that I have contracted."

He said he was working from a "controlled environment at home."

In September 2014, Jaitley underwent a bariatric surgery to treat weight gain because of a long-standing diabetic condition.

The surgery was first performed at Max Hospital, but he had to be later shifted to AIIMS because of complications.
