350 officials under CBI scanner for forging UPPSC marks

At least 350 sub-divisional magistrates (SDM) and deputy superintendents of police (DySP) are under Central Bureau of Investigation's scanner for forging marks.

At least 350 sub-divisional magistrates (SDM) and deputy superintendents of police (DySP) are under Central Bureau of Investigation's scanner for forging marks.

The 350 SDMs and DySP were selected through Provincial Civil Services exams conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) from 2012 to 2017.

An FIR was lodged on May 5, and according to sources, the investigators are scanning the answer copies of all those who were selected over the five year period.

According to sources, the CBI during the preliminary enquiry found that marks of the candidates were changed. In one such case, CBI found that a candidate who got -15 in Hindi, his score was changed to +24 marks.

CBI has also alleged the officials responsible for fair examination did not cooperate during the preliminary inquiry.

The enquiry reveals that unknown public servants and private persons entered into criminal conspiracy for the purpose of cheating by abusing their official position by corrupt or illegal means. Due to this some of the undeserving candidates qualified for the interview on the basis of marks increased during moderation. Marks of deserving candidates were reduced so that they could not qualify for an interview and undeserving candidates got selected," the FIR read.

CBI initiated its preliminary enquiry in this case in February 2018 and lodged an FIR against unknown UPPSC officials and private persons on May 5.
