BJP’s defeat enthuses Opposition parties
The bypoll results, especially the BJP’s defeat in the two key constituencies of Uttar Pradesh, Gorakhpur and Phulpur have energised the Opposition.
AIADMK leader M. Thambidurai said pan-Indian political parties are losing their importance.
“It is the regional parties who know the mood of the people. This is true for nearly all States. The problem with pan-Indian parties is that they only concentrate on some big States and neglect the remaining,” Mr. Thambidurai said. He said the bypoll results show that the BJP no longer has its ear to the ground.
Anti-BJP platform
“The federal forces are coming together formally and informally for a pro-people, pro-India and anti-BJP platform. The by-election results indicate the success of such a platform,” Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’Brien said. The Left who suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of the BJP in Tripura, said the bypoll results show that the BJP is on the decline. In a brief tweet CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury said the “results speak for themselves.”
CPI MP D. Raja said the results will have an impact on all secular democratic forces, which should evolve a suitable electoral tactical line keeping the objective of defeating the BJP.
