Jaitley’s tone and tenor forced TDP to pull out
The party lost hope after the Minister declared govt.’s stand.
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s statement expressing inability to give the special category status to Andhra Pradesh or make any other concession forced the TDP to pull out of the Narendra Modi government.
A majority of the TDP MPs said that had Mr. Jaitley not declared the government’s stand, there could have been room for talks. TDP Lok Sabha member K. Rammohan Naidu said Mr. Jaitley’s comments forced his party to pull the plug.
“Mr. Jaitley’s tone and tenor on Wednesday was disappointing and insulting to the people of Andhra Pradesh. It did not show any respect to our protest. He said this was what the government was going to do... He also said the sentiment of people did not mean the quantum of economic assistance would increase,” TDP Lok Sabha member K. Rammohan Naidu said.
‘BJP did not care’
Another Lok Sabha member Kesineni Srinivas said: “Mr. Jaitley’s press conference was an insult to the people of Andhra Pradesh. What the BJP is doing today is worse than what the Congress did. The BJP government has cheated the people of Andhra Pradesh.” For over a year, when the TDP tried to highlight its discomfort, the BJP did not care at all, he said.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu tweeted on Wednesday night that he tried to reach out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inform him of the decision to pull out of the government. “But sadly, he was unavailable.” Earlier in the day, speaking in the Assembly, he said he had visited Delhi 29 times, but the visits did not have any impact.
