During his 'Parikasha pe Charcha' interaction with students today, one bright spark asked PM Narendra Modi if he was prepared for his own board exams, which are the Lok Sabha elections next year.
The PM didn't answer the operative part of the question immediately. He first told the student who asked the question that he's sure what that student has a surefire career in.
"This much I know for sure, that if I was your teacher I would guide you to go to journalism, because the long-winded way you asked this questions, it is just like journalists ask questions," the PM said to much laughter.
The PM then proceeded to answer the bit about his own 'board exams', but not without getting a dig in at the media, again.
"We have exams 24 hours. A small municipal election will be taking place in a far corner of India and 'Breaking News: Blow for Modi', the headlines will say,' said Modi.
He then explained to students what their attitude to exam results shpuld be and for that he used the example of the BJP's forbear, a party called Jan Sangh.
"There used to be a party called Jan Sangh, they were very scared. I wasn't in politics then, but I remember very clearly, they ut up 103 candidates in Gujarat, of whom 99 lost their election deposit," recounted Modi.
Losing one's deposit was akin to failing exams - badly - Modi explained.
"But four candidates got their deposits back. And you know what the Jan Sangh did? It took this money and threw a big party and distributed sweets. When someone asked them 'why?', the Jan Sangh said, 'Because 4 candidates retained their deposits'.., imagine," explained PM Modi
