58 Army Men Ride Bike In Bengaluru For World Record

Around 58 men of the Indian Army set a world record on Sunday by riding a single motorcycle at the IAF base in the city’s northern outskirts, official sources said.

“The 58-member motorcycle team of the Army Service Corps (ASC) christened ‘Tornadoes’ set another world record by riding a 500cc Royal Enfield motorbike for 1,200 metres at the Yelahanka Air Force Station,” a Defence Ministry statement said here.

Dressed in a Tricolour apparel, team driver Subedar Rampal Yadav steered the sturdy bike, with its leader Major Bunny Sharma on the vanguard while other members stood behind and around on the flanks attached to the two-wheeler.

ASC Centre and College Commandant Lieutenant General Vipan Gupta, its southern Training Centre Brigadier Ashok Choudhary and senior officers from the Army and the Indian Air Force (IAF) witnessed the thrilling display by the team, comprising officers and members of Other Ranks.

“With 1,000 shows across the world in three decades, the ASC team holds 19 world and national records, including one by 56 men riding a motorbike in 2010,” the statement said.

Formed 35 years ago under the aegis of then Colonel C.N. Rao and Captain J.P Verma, the display team became world famous with its devilry and record-breaking feats.

“Debuting at the 9th Asian Games in New Delhi in 1982, the Tornadoes team has been participating in major international and national events to promote national integration and adventurism,” added the statement.
