Three of the four members of a family, who attempted self-immolation at the Tirunelveli collectorate this morning following harassment by a usurious money lender, died at the Tirunelveli district headquarters hospital. The victims include, Subbulakshmi, 27, and her daughters Madhucharanya, 4, and Akshaya Paranika, 2. Her husband, Isakkimuthu, 27, is struggling for life.

This family belongs to Kasidharmam area of Kadayanallur.
Subbulakshmi is said to have borrowed Rs.1.45 lakhs from a woman. She was repaying in monthly installments. In spit e of repaying Rs.2.34 lakhs, the lender kept on pestering her to pay more.
When Isakki Muthu lodged a complaint with the Achanpudur police, he received no response.
He also submitted 6 petitions to the District Collector but there was none to pay heed to his appeals.
Totally distraught, the entire family attempted self-immolation.
