Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Quits

Hours after alliance leader Lalu Prasad Yadav's warning and statement of "I made Nitish the Chief Minister", Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, on Wednesday, met Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi and resigned from his post. The Governor, who was to visit Kolkata, canceled his trip after he got a call from the Chief Minister.

Nitish Kumar reportedly told his ministers, "'Samay aa gaya hain, humhe karna hain' (The time has come, we have to do this)."

Sources say the BJP Parliamentary Board will meet to take a call on whether to support the JD(U) from outside or not.

Just minutes after the announcement of Bihar Chief Minsiter Nitish Kumar's resignation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to say: "Congratulations to Nitish Kumar on joining the fight against corruption. 125 crore citizens welcome and support his honest move."

He added: "It is the need of the hour to rise above political differences and come together to fight against corruption for the development of the country, especially in Bihar."

Lalu Warns: I Made Nitish The CM

Earlier in the day, the RJD leader, in a statement to emphasise his influence on the Mahagathbandhan, said, "I made Nitish the CM."

"Humne gathbandhan banaya hai. Hum ne Nitish ko CM banaya hain. Saaf saaf bata rahe hain, koi dikkat nahi hain gathbandhan main (I have formed the gathbandhan. I have made Nitish the CM. I am clarifying it here, there is no problem in the gathbandhan), leader said.

Merely few moments after, Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav cried ‘political vendetta.’ Tejashwi went on to add that nobody had asked for his resignation and these were ‘false and baseless’ allegations against him.

Attacking the BJP, Tejashwi Yadav said, ‘BJP is trying to break Mahagathbandhan’.

Tejashwi has to resign or I will: Nitish

Earlier, sources told Republic TV that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was all set to sack Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav. As per sources, the CM had made up his decision. Republic TV was first to report that Nitish had made it clear that "if Tejaswi Yadav doesn't resign, then he would step down."

Rahul Gandhi wanted Nitish to forgive Tejashwi

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi is believed to have told Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to forgive the corruption charges against Deputy CM and Lalu Prasad Yadav's son Tejashwi Yadav to 'protect the Mahagathbandhan'. However, sources say that the Chief Minister told the Congress leader that there would be 'no compromise' and that the allegations against the Deputy Chief Minister were unacceptable.

The Chief Minister also made it clear that he respected Congress president Sonia Gandhi's words and had come to Delhi out of respect for the leader's concern. He is believed to have said he cannot have a tainted individual as the Deputy Chief Minister of the State and it was against his 'way of politics'.
