With the agitation against ONGC at Kathiramangalam near successive 10th day today, leaders of various political parties, including MDMK general secretary Vaiko, CPI state secretary R Mutharasan, CPM central committee member G.Balakrishnan, Tamizhaga Vaazhvurimai Katchi president Velmurugan visited the village and heard the local residents’ grievances and views.

They were led by Pazha Nedumaran, president, Federation of World Tamils. All the leaders were taken in a massive rally from the neighbouring Sivaramapuram bus stop on the Kumbakonam - Mayiladuthurai road to Kathiramangalam where the leaders met the leaders of joint action committee. The leaders reached Kathiramangalam after walking a distance of one and a half kilometre.
Besides these leaders, DMK north district secretary S.Kalyanasundaram, Congress district president T R Loganathan, DMK MLA Govi Chezhiyan, Cine Director Gauthaman, Cauvery Rights Retrieval Committee coordinator P Maniarasan, Viduthalai Tamil Puligal president Kudanthai Arasan also took part.
Pazha Nedumaran, speaking on the occasion, said that the agitation would continue till the demands of local residents were fulfilled. All political parties would stand by the people’s stir, he added.

Vaikon, in his address, expressed fear and apprehension that the surrounding areas would tune into a desert as ONGC had laid pipelines in Kathiramangalam area to carry oil.
