Four persons get life term, two others 10 year RI for sexually assaulting a minor girl


The Mahila Fast Track Court here today convicted and sentenced three persons to life imprisonment and two other persons to 10 year rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl near Saliyamangalam in 2014.

Interestingly, in another case, the court also sentenced the girl’s lover to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting the minor girl after abducting her.

A 25-year-old Prabhu, resident of Saliyamangalam, eloped with the 15-year-old girl to Tiruppur. Based on a complaint by her father, Ammapettai police registered a case of ‘girl missing’ and conducted enquiry.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that the minor girl had eloped with Prabhu to Tiruppur. Following which, police asked the girl and her lover to appear in the police station for further enquiry.

Subsequently, Prabhu along with the girl returned to the village and they were walking on the Suliyakottai-Saliyamangalam road at 3 am on February 19, 2014 when a five member gang who arrived there in two motorcycles attacked Prabhu and forcibly took her to a nearby agriculture field where the gangsters sexually assaulted her.

Based on a complaint by Prabhu, Ammapettai  police registered a case and arrested V Dharmarajan (45),  P Kalaimaran (34) of Pachakottai, P Sivakumar (27), G Senthilkumar (23), all hailing from Pachakottai village and M Manikandan (22), hailing from Saliyamangalam village.

Interestingly, Kalaimaran and Sivakumar are brothers.

Based on a complaint by the girl’s father, police registered a case and arrested Prabhu for abducting the girl and sexually assaulting her during their stay in Tiruppur.

Trial of these two cases was conducted at the Mahila Fast Track Court in Thanjavur.

The judge, delivering his verdict in the first case today, awarded life imprisonment to Dharmarajan, Kalaimaran and Manikandan and each 10 year imprisonment to Senthil Kumar and Sivakumar, besides slapping each with a fine of Rs  1,000.

In the second case, the judge ordered Prabhu to undergo life imprisonment besides slapping him with a fine of Rs 1,000.
